Here’s What Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Has To Say About Running For President

in 2020 by

Donald Trump became the first reality TV star to be elected President and the rest of the entertainment industry has taken notice. One of the biggest names being thrown around as a potential Presidential candidate is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. As a brief aside during a GQ interview, the movie star casually mentioned that he would consider running for President in the future. That’s all it took to whip the media into a frenzy with anticipation. The fever pitch even produced a national poll that was conducted by Public Policy Polling, a leading Democrat polling firm that often tacks on less serious questions.

We also looked at Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s prospects if he were to run for President as a Democrat. 36% of voters see Johnson favorably to 13% with a negative view of him, although 50% of voters have no opinion about him either way. Both Democrats (38/15) and Republicans (31/17) see him positively. Johnson would lead Trump 42/37 in a prospective contest, and wins over 15% of people who supported Trump last fall.

The Rock went on Jimmy Fallon shortly after that poll was released to discuss the possibility that he actually might run for President. He didn’t give much away, and stuck to the story that he was merely flattered by the outpouring of support. At this time, it appears that Dwayne Johnson is only testing the waters and is nowhere near an actual decision. After all, the Republican and Democrat party primaries won’t even start for another two years so he has plenty of time to decide.

During that time, The Rock will also need to decide which party he wants to run with. The poll done by PPP listed him as a Democrat but there’s little information to support that assumption. Dwayne Johnson appeared at the 2000 Republican National Convention, he’s a registered Republican, and good friends with former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R). Although, his social positions are probably as in line with the conservative base of the party as Schwarzenegger’s are.

Time will tell whether this is just a PR stunt or if Dwayne Johnson is serious about running for President. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time a celebrity was elected, so The Rock’s chances are looking good.
